"My latest inspiration trip was to Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Its name is derived from Kilima Njaro in Swahili, which means 'Shining Mountain".

Trekking my way up the steep, winding trail of this spectacular mountain I wanted to emulate the sultry, smoky shades of the native lavenders and blend tones of the deep purple and jewel hues of the mountain as dusk gently turns to moonlight. What a stunning destination palette this color combination could be!

After long days of trekking (and blending) I finally arrive at our camp. I could not have imagined the other-worldly landscape of the Mooreland zone heading east toward Kibo's glaciered peak. The evenings on the mountain are magical, desolate and silent and you are spellbound by the stunning beauty and silence of the environment. The only sounds to be heard are the distant Swahili sing-songs and the quiet crackling of an African campfire.

As the evening sky emerges, tiny glittering stars glow bright as the snow capped peak shimmers in the starlight. The colors here are rich and bold and the harmonious hues deeply connect you to the ancient mystery of the land.

I listened intently as my guides shared wonderful stories and songs of Kilimanjaro. I would like to share my favorite story with you. In 1961 when Tanzania gained independence from England President Nyerere trekked to the top of the peak with a flaming torch and planted it there to symbolize bringing light to all of Africa. I thought this was a wonderful display of celebrating the beauty, independence of strength of all African people. They truly live beauty from within.

Asante, sana Africa, thank you for this exquisite experience.
