"No matter where I've traveled since exploring the Great Barrier Reef, I've always sought the tranquility and mystery of the ocean and its rejuvenating, healing properties."
It was here in the Reef that I found the perfect inspiration in the reef's infinite form for a series of exquisite eye-color palettes, bold, luxurious, wearable shades inspired by the ever-changing tones of the Reef, Blue Waters and Green Isles.
One of my earliest dreams as a young girl, living in the driest state of Australia, was to explore the chain of islands that ran along the eastern coast called the Great Barrier Reef. Little did I know that my trip here would provide the inspiration for a color collection as well as an entirely new concept in skin care, founded on hydrating marine minerals.
My first stop on the Reef was Hamilton Island, which is really laid back and has a healthy-living vibe. The Beach Club Resort has an amazing infinity pool and outdoor restaurants serve delicious fresh-caught John Dory, a local fish.
I found myself out in a kayak, bobbing on the Reef before the birds were awake each morning, and diving in for a quiet morning dip. I love floating in the ocean, in the middle of nowhere, experiencing a world of complete tranquility and feeling so connected to nature. And there's something about emerging from the ocean that makes me feel so refreshed and recharged by all of the marine minerals, salts and nutrients from the sea. My skin takes on such a soft texture.
Then I took a short helicopter ride to Hayman Island. It was incredible to be transported over the ocean this way, since I was close enough see the details of tiny waves, azure pockets of deep water and pale turquoise shallow-water shades along the shores of tiny uninhabited deep-green islands.
The next day, I took a sailboat on a scuba diving adventure and found the most brilliantly colored coral reefs, still in the most perfect form. I fell in love with underwater life and now make a point of diving as often as possible. I've since dived the East China Sea, Sardinia and the South Pacific.
My last stop was Lizard Island (guess how it got its name!), the northern most inhabited island on the Reef. Its home to a gorgeous resort and an important Marine Biology Institute, where I learned more about the environmental impact on the Reef and how we can best preserve it. The Institute is as passionate as I am about the wonders of the ocean, so I became a MarineBio Society member to help support conservation and research projects and to help inspire an ardent sea ethic in others.
